LIHEAP and USF Overview
Unable to pay for your heating or cooling?
You may qualify for assistance.
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps low-income residential customers pay for heating and cooling bills, even if heat is included as part of rent payments. LIHEAP provides assistance for all types of heat and may also provide emergency assistance funds for heater and water heater repairs.
LIHEAP also provides grants in the winter so that eligible households can pay their heating bills and continue using heating equipment. The benefit amount depends on the number of people in the household, geographical location and household gross income.
Applications for LIHEAP in New Jersey are accepted between October 1st, 2020 and June 30th, 2021. USF applications are accepted throughout the year.
Additional Information about LIHEAP
Households that qualify for LIHEAP in New Jersey may also be eligible for Universal Service Fund (USF). Those applying for LIHEAP will also be applying for USF since one application serves both programs. USF helps low-income households lower their energy bills, making it possible for them to pay their energy bills.
